All-on-Four vs. traditional dentures
Dentures are removable and that can create challenges when eating, speaking or even laughing. While we can take steps to make them more secure, there is a natural risk for movement since they are not attached to anything and are designed to be removed. The positive side of dentures, however, is that we can create them rather quickly and that no surgery is necessary. Patients in a hurry often prefer this solution because they need fast results.
This is where the All-on-Four procedure really shines. We create a full set of teeth, like with dentures, but instead of them slipping into place, we secure them to implants. We secure four implants under the gum line and into the jaw bone. The implants become anchors for a full set of teeth. Since we can place the implants in one day, the procedure is also fast.
All-on-Four vs. dental implants
Dental implants are the most durable way to replace missing teeth because a titanium post is inserted under the gums and secured to the jawbone. The body treats titanium like natural matter and deposits the bone around the actual posts. This creates stability and durability that is only rivaled by a natural tooth. Essentially, the post becomes a synthetic root to secure the new tooth.
We create the new teeth based on the specific size requirements of the mouth to ensure that the restorations look completely natural. The benefits include being able to eat normal and smile without anyone knowing that the teeth are replacements.
The process can take time
The challenge with dental implants is that it takes some time to place each individual implant, especially when replacing all or most of the teeth. It can take significant time and multiple appointments to complete these oral surgeries. For anyone who does not have the time for multiple appointments, this can become an impossibility. Also, placing individual dental implants can be more costly.
The All-on-Four procedure uses dental implant technology, but the process can be completed in one day, rather than several appointments since only four implants are placed. Fortunately, since the new set of teeth are still secured to implants, it is possible to enjoy the same benefits of eating and speaking without concern of teeth slipping or falling out of place. They also look natural when smiling. Finally, the procedure is more affordable since it takes less time to complete.
